Investors in People - new Recruitment and Selection model

Recruitment, selection and retention of people with the right skills is one of the biggest challenges facing UK organisations.

  • average cost of recruitment is £3,456 per head
  • average cost of professional recruitment is £5,206
  • recruitment is often unplanned and haphazard
  • recruiting the wrong people can be disastrous

Intended as a framework of good practice, the Recruitment and Selection model has been developed in-conjunction with employers, practitioners and the CIPD as a self assessing product to assist employers with recruitment issues and put recruitment onto a strategic level.

The model follows the same simple format of the Investors in People Standard

  • four principles of Commitment, Planning, Action and Evaluation (on the right)
  • 10 indicators of good practice
  • evidence criteria to demonstrate conformance to the model

  • Commitment - The organisation is fully committed to taking a strategic approach to recruitment and selection in order to achieve its objectives
  • Planning - The organisation is clear about the people it needs to achieve its aims and objectives
  • Action - The organisation recruits people effectively and efficiently in order to achieve its aims and objectives
  • Evaluation - The organisation understands the impact of its ability to recruit people on its aims and objectives

The Recruitment and Selection model is available for use by any employer regardless of size or Investors in People status.

The model is launched in July 2001.
